Binge Eating/Obesity Treatment and Weight Management
Binge Eating is an eating behavior disorder in which the patient eats a lot in a short period of time until the abdominal distension is uncomfortable. The high incidence prevails in the age group of young women. The etiology is unknown, but it may be related to familial heredity, stress, depression and anxiety. Patients with binge eating disorder do not have compensatory behaviors such as inducing vomiting.
Obesity is already a global problem and is spreading more rapidly across Asia. In Hong Kong, approximately 30 percent of the adult population is obese, and another 20 percent is classified as overweight (Hong Kong Demographic Health Survey 2014/15). According to the survey of the Hong Kong Obesity Society in 2018: 70.9% of the respondents did not know that the WHO has defined obesity as a disease, and 72.5% of the respondents did not know how BMI defines overweight and obesity. Obesity has been shown to be a high-risk factor for diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, fatty liver and some cancers.
In recent years, Europe and the United States have adopted rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) therapy, which uses a temporary strong high magnetic field to trigger current transmission in brain nerve cells to regulate neural activity in the brain. Using the magnetic pulse of rTMS to change the activity of cortical neurons, reduce appetite and improve intestinal microbial ecology, so as to achieve effective weight management. With Oma Clinical Psychologist and Registered Dietitian, the effect is more remarkable. rTMS therapy is also effective for obesity*. (10 times of rTMS and sports and medical nutrition consultation are recommended)
